Q&A with Dr. Adnan Khan
Get to know one of Little River Healthcare’s newest doctors, Dr. Adnan Khan, who is joining the LRH family Dec. 7 to provide Pain Management procedures and treatments to patients at King’s Daughters Clinic and Rockdale Family Care Clinic.
What is your medical background?
I’m a native of Arkansas. I went to the University of Arkansas for medical sciences, and then I did an anesthesiology residency at Tulane University in New Orleans. Next, I did a pain fellowship, which is a subspecialty of anesthesiology, at Anderson in Houston. After I finished training, I practiced in Woodland, north of Houston, for three and a half years because my wife was still in training—she’s a pathologist—and when she finished in 2012, we moved to Austin where I worked at Austin Pain Associates for three and a half years.
Why did you choose Pain Management?
Pain Management is a subspecialty of anesthesiology, I was in my anesthesiology residency and I enjoyed it, but I felt like something was missing. You don’t get to know your patients very well and I was looking for more lasting relationships and the ability to sit down one-on-one and get to know people and help them with chronic pain problems.
What’s your treatment philosophy?
I really try to restore function. Although what I do is manage chronic pain, ideally I like to help people resume as many activities as they can and restore as much full function as possible.
Who does your family consist of?
My wife is a practicing pathologist and lab director. We have three kids—our oldest is six and our youngest is one—and we have two dogs, Zelda and Buster. We live in Cedar Park.
Favorite activity to unwind?
I love hanging out with the kids. We go to the park, the movies—whatever the kids want to do. These things allow me to step back from work and enjoy life.
Favorite show to binge watch?
Our favorite show by far is “Game of Thrones.” We’re kind of fanatical about it.
Batman. He’s just so much more mysterious than the other superheroes, plus he has a cool car and I always thought the bat cave was really cool.
Dr. Khan will be treating patients in Temple on Mondays and Wednesdays and in Rockdale on Tuesdays and Thursdays.
