Q: What is your medical background?
A: I graduated as the 1998 class salutatorian from Waco High School. In 2002, I graduated Magna Cum Laude with a bachelor of science in economics from Baylor University.
I received my doctor of medicine in 2006 from Texas Tech School of Medicine and completed my residency in internal medicine at the University of Texas HSC at San Antonio in 2009. I went on to UTMB Galveston and The Methodist Hospital Houston where I received training in cardiology.
I finished my specialty training at Scott and White in interventional cardiology. I have cared for patients in Waco since 2009 with the McLennan County Hospitalist Services and through the Veterans Administration.
Q: You’re an interventional cardiologist. How does that differ from a regular cardiologist?
A: There are cardiologists who don’t do invasive procedures—they conduct preventative medicine for heart disease, imaging and follow up. Then there are cardiologists that do invasive, like me. However, an invasive cardiologist may only perform diagnostic studies on the heart.
An interventional cardiologist like me performs stents, angioplasty and peripheral vascular procedures. I can also implant defibrillators, cardiac monitors and pacemakers. Those types of patient therapies set me apart from a non-interventional cardiologist.
Q: What is your treatment philosophy?
A: We try to do mostly preventative medicine. We want to help prevent our patients from needing advanced cardiac therapies.
Q: What different services does your practice offer?
A: We offer all the different in-office testings, like cardiac ultrasound, cardiac rhythm monitoring, echocardiograms and stress testing. We also offer comprehensive lab evaluation and advanced cholesterol management.
Q: What are your hobbies outside of work?
A: I like to hunt and fish and spend time with family and friends. And of course I love to watch sports.
Q: What’s your favorite TV show to binge watch?
Q: What’s your favorite book?
A: The Hunt for the Red October
Q: What’s your favorite thing about living in Texas?
