Little River Healthcare has expanded its reach once again by adding a family health practice in Groesbeck to its growing list of offerings. The clinic, Rettig Family Health Care, is led by Dr. Jeffrey Rettig, DO, and has been a mainstay family practice in Groesbeck since 1988.
Dr. Rettig was born and raised in Iowa, and went to Iowa State University for his undergraduate degree. He then went to the Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine in Missouri for medical school and then moved to Phoenix for medical training. Dr. Rettig’s wife is from Dallas, so after completing his schooling, the pair moved to Groesbeck where Dr. Rettig launched his own family medical practice.
“I’d always been interested in medicine, and when I was in college it was a toss-up between human medicine and veterinary medicine,” Dr. Rettig said. “When I was a senior, I applied to both medical and veterinarian school. I thought I might get into one but not both, but as fate would have it, I got into both, so I had to make a decision. I thought about it and prayed about it and decided to go into medicine.”
Dr. Rettig moved his clinic in 1995 to its current location, which was a hospital before he renovated it into the clinic it is today.
“We are a full-service family practice, but we don’t do deliveries,” Dr. Rettig said. “We can do anything after birth all the way to the end of life. I even do hospital rounds because we have a hospital practice.”
In addition, Rettig Family Health Care offers comprehensive, state-of-the-art therapeutic and diagnostic services, urgent care in Groesbeck, as well as facilities for the treatment of minor emergencies and injuries, and minor surgical procedures. Besides Dr. Rettig, there are three physician assistants who work at the clinic as well.
Although Rettig Family Health Care is new to the LRH family, Dr. Rettig’s nursing home practice has been a part of LRH for about a year and a half. He has two nurse practitioners who assist him with those services, which provide monitoring of the elderly's progress and medical care while they are in a nursing home.
Outside of work, Dr. Rettig enjoys spending time on his ranch, fishing, hunting and being involved with his four children and four grandchildren.
Dr. Rettig is looking forward to a strong future with LRH. “I was looking for a partnership that would offer me and my staff the opportunity to continue to practice how we’ve been practicing,” he said. “With Little River’s expertise and the previous experience I’ve had with Little River, it’s evident that the organization cares about its employees and patients.”
Rettig Family Health Care is open Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., with a one-hour closure from noon to 1 p.m. daily for lunch. The clinic is located at 204 W. Trinity St. in Groesbeck.
